Engine Room On A Ferry

The engine room (or ER) of a large marine vessel such as a tug boat, fire boat, or mega ship houses the vessel’s prime mover, usually some variations of a heat engine – diesel engine, gas or steam turbine, or some combination of these. On a large percentage of vessels ships and boats, the engine room is located near the bottom, and at the rear or aft end of the vessel, and usually comprises few compartments. As shown in this video tour of a mega ship’s engine room, there are numerous components within the engine room including boilers, generators, fuel pumps, exhaust manifolds and more. Many of these marine engine room components benefit from the installation of insulation blankets. Read more.

Flexible Insulation Blankets

Aug 02 2019
Removable Steam Pipe Insulation

Traditional stay-in-place thermal insulation for piping and other components is rigid, and if it’s partially or fully removed for inspections or maintenance it usually can’t be replaced. Insulation that isn’t flexible, or rigid insulation, doesn’t work for every application. There are some cases where insulation blankets, like Thermaxx Jackets, are a better solution because they can be made with alternative insulation materials that are flexible. This allows for components of irregular shape to be insulated effectively. Read more.

Cryogenic Insulation Jacket For Liquid Helium Pump

Jun 30 2019
Cryogenic Valve Insulation

A customer contacted us about insulating a machine designed to liquefy helium so that it can be transported throughout the machine. In order to do this, the helium must be cooled to about 4 Kelvin (-452⁰ F). Our job is to ensure that the components of the machine are insulated well enough to keep the helium at that temperature. This was by far the coldest application we have encountered so far, so the design of the jacket was going to require some special thought… More

Regulating Boiler Room Temperature

Jun 25 2019
Typical Boiler Room Piping

A hot boiler room creates many problems. Typically, the ceiling of a boiler room is the bottom of the floor directly above and because heat rises the ceiling area is hot, extremely hot. Many times, we see temperatures exceeding 115°F! The floor above the boiler room radiates heat into the occupied space causing an unanticipated load on the cooling system. The space is so uncomfortable that windows are opened in the winter time wasting more heat. Read more.

Getting To Know Your Building: The Commercial Facility Energy Assessment

Jun 24 2019
Thermaxx App

Since ThermaXX started manufacturing removable insulation jackets in 2007, we have tripled in size. Our growth can be attributed to the strong energy drives across the US and throughout the world! There are benchmarking requirements in many US cities. Benchmarking requires a facility owner to report energy usage to the local building department. Often times if this information is not submitted there are violations and fines that will be imposed. In addition to benchmarking, energy auditing and retro commissioning are also becoming requisite… More
