Insulation Bid Package Guide

Apr 10 2019

Recently, I was surprised to see so many general insulation contractors throwing their hat into the ring while on a mandatory facility walk-through for an insulation jacket project that was being put out to bid by an engineering firm. When the walk-through was completed we were given a valve list and a couple of notes about the bid process, but key pieces of information were left out. Read more.

Why You Should Inspect Stainless Steel Pipes

Mar 14 2019
stress-corrosion-cracking

Common in factories and plants, stainless steel pipes and tubes are something we frequently see in our removable insulation installation calls. In these industrial settings, stainless steel pipes are frequently exposed to extreme temperatures and conditions; thus, insulating them is important to energy savings. Perhaps equally important is inspecting stainless steel pipes…More

Insulating Hospital Sterilization Autoclaves Increases Workplace Safety

Jan 19 2019

Autoclaves work in a similar way to a pressure cooker, but they’re typically used in a more extreme form of cooking: to blast the bacteria on things with steam long enough to sterilize them. The extra pressure in an autoclave means that water boils at a temperature higher than its normal boiling point—roughly 20°C hotter—so it holds and carries more heat and kills germs more effectively… Read More

NYC 6th Graders Visit Boiler Room to Study Thermaxx Jackets

Jan 17 2019

According to Go Green Brooklyn’s Fai Walker, a class of 6th graders from Brooklyn’s MS 126 took a field trip to their school’s boiler room at the beginning of the winter season when heating costs and green house gas emissions rise. That’s exactly what these students were learning about when they observed the installation of a removable Thermaxx Jacket on their school’s boiler. Read more.

e-needle-fiberglass

When it comes to thermal mechanical insulation, there are three major types: insulation for cold equipment, insulation for hot equipment, and insulation for equipment to prevent freezing. Accurately choosing the correct insulation in all three instances can help keep your equipment working at its best and save you money…More

Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers Explained

Nov 16 2018
Plate and Frame Heat Exchanger and Process Piping Insulated by Thermaxx jackets

The concept behind a heat exchanger is the use of pipes or other containment vessels to heat or cool one fluid by transferring heat between it and another fluid. In most cases, the exchanger consists of a coiled pipe containing one fluid that passes through a chamber containing another fluid. The walls of the pipe are usually made of metal, or another substance with a high thermal conductivity, to facilitate the interchange, whereas the outer casing of the larger chamber is made of a plastic or coated with thermal insulation, to discourage heat from escaping from the exchanger… More

Insulating A Thermodynamic Steam Trap’s Inlet & Outlet

Oct 27 2018
insulated steam inlet

After years of working in the insulation industry and insulating hundreds of steam components in NYC, I’ve observed that there is rarely insulation on the incoming (inlet) and outgoing (outlet) piping of a thermodynamic (TD) steam trap. This is because the facility manager will need to do maintenance on the thermodynamic steam trap assembly regularly, so using hard insulation on the components would limit his or her access to them… More

High Temperature Insulation Covers & Blankets

Oct 08 2018
High Temperature Insulation

Thermaxx Jackets manufactures insulation jackets to insulate very hot applications, ranging from 600°F to 2500°F. Depending upon the temperature of the application, specific designs and materials need to be employed in manufacturing of a high temperature insulating jacket. Traditional materials and designs fail when used at high temperature. The first step in the hot jacket design is the materials selection. This requires an understanding of the hot component, the components environment and the design of the jacket… More
