HVAC Insulators for Industrial Applications

Oct 31 2019

HVAC (heating, ventilation, & air condition) systems provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality through mechanical engineering. Industrial HVAC systems are an important part of structures such as apartment buildings, hotels and senior living facilities, medium to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers and hospitals, vehicles such as trains, airplanes, ships and submarines, and in marine environments, where safe and healthy building conditions are regulated with respect to temperature and humidity, using fresh air from outdoors. Insulation Jackets Case Study: Garfield Building In San Francisco, CA

Oct 02 2019

The Garfield Building in San Francisco, located in the heart of the theater district, is a beautiful 28 unit building built by the Reid Brothers in 1908, and the infrastructure was totally gutted and remodeled in 2008. Dave Pritchard, the Garfield’s HOA President, reached out to ThermaXX in the Spring of 2018. Dave was passionately looking at all possible ways to become more energy efficient, and wanted to look at the potential cost effectiveness of techniques he had seen used commercially in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry applied in a residential application. Marine Engine Room Insulation Blankets

Aug 21 2019
Engine Room On A Ferry

The engine room (or ER) of a large marine vessel such as a tug boat, fire boat, or mega ship houses the vessel’s prime mover, usually some variations of a heat engine – diesel engine, gas or steam turbine, or some combination of these. On a large percentage of vessels ships and boats, the engine room is located near the bottom, and at the rear or aft end of the vessel, and usually comprises few compartments. As shown in this video tour of a mega ship’s engine room, there are numerous components within the engine room including boilers, generators, fuel pumps, exhaust manifolds and more. Many of these marine engine room components benefit from the installation of insulation blankets. Read more.

Protection From Hot Pipes & Components Using Insulation Blankets

Aug 08 2019

Thermaxx Jackets recently had a customer that was seeking to insulate all of the hot pipes and components in their learning facility after an employee had been burned when coming into contact with a bare hot component’s surface. Removable insulation blankets by Thermaxx Jackets are great for improving your steam system’s energy efficiency, but the safety benefits for your personnel are overlooked far too often. Read more.

Cryogenic Insulation Jacket For Liquid Helium Pump

Jun 30 2019
Cryogenic Valve Insulation

A customer contacted us about insulating a machine designed to liquefy helium so that it can be transported throughout the machine. In order to do this, the helium must be cooled to about 4 Kelvin (-452⁰ F). Our job is to ensure that the components of the machine are insulated well enough to keep the helium at that temperature. This was by far the coldest application we have encountered so far, so the design of the jacket was going to require some special thought… More

Bad Actuator Not Working? How To Prevent Actuator Failure

Jun 12 2019

Valve actuators are a critical component in any heating, cooling or process related system. There are many reasons that actuators go bad or fail. Is the voltage correct? Has a fuse blown? Has the power board failed? Have wires become fused or disconnected? These are the most common reasons that electric actuators fail. While we at Thermaxx cannot control the voltage, we can alleviate many of the other reason’s actuators go bad. How do we do that? We have made available a very simple, yet truly effective way to prevent fuses blowing, wires getting overheated and control board damage. The WeatherMaxx cover solves all these problems! Read more.

The Difference Between Hot And Cold Insulation Materials

Jun 03 2019

It’s difficult to make the decision between purchasing hot or cold removable insulation materials without truly knowing both sides of the story. Both forms of insulation materials are going to save you money in the end, but it is vital to determine which is the most practical and cost effective for your piping system.

There are questions that need to be asked when choosing insulation. At the top of this decision tree is the most important: is the equipment or piping that we are insulating hot or cold? Once this question is answered the next question is: interior or exterior? The answer to these two questions will jump start the decision process when choosing an insulation…More
