Insulating Hospital Sterilization Autoclaves Increases Workplace Safety

Jan 19 2019

Autoclaves work in a similar way to a pressure cooker, but they’re typically used in a more extreme form of cooking: to blast the bacteria on things with steam long enough to sterilize them. The extra pressure in an autoclave means that water boils at a temperature higher than its normal boiling point—roughly 20°C hotter—so it holds and carries more heat and kills germs more effectively… Read More

Mechanical Insulation Payback Verification for the Budget Requester

Mar 14 2018

Mechanical insulation has been used since piping has been carrying materials at a temperature higher or lower than ambient temperature the pipe is running through. As the industrial age advanced to the technology age, new construction and renovation specifications required steam, hot water, chilled water and cold water pipe to be insulated. Through the years, standards were tightened and material efficiencies improved. The specifications below show a detailed matrix specifying the actual required pipe insulation thickness based on pipe size and temperature… More

In January, 2012, Thermaxx entered into contract with West Virginia University (WVU) to provide removable insulation jackets and removable insulation covers in a mechanical room at their Mineral Resource Building. WVU contacted Thermaxx Jackets after discovering the company via an Internet search for information on insulating steam traps. After a site visit by the Thermaxx Representative, it was realized by both the University and Thermaxx that more than steam trap insulation was needed. The Mineral Resource Building mechanical room yielded up many needs for insulation jackets including: gate valves, steam traps, Wye Strainers, pressure reducing valves, and pumps…More
