Food Grade Insulation Blankets

May 02 2018

Thermaxx Jackets has worked with many clients who are trying to make their food processing plant more energy efficient, safer, and cleaner (such as Calabro Cheese). The USDA recommends insulating pipes in food processing facilities, providing a layer of protection between the piping and your product. The insulation blankets used should be food grade or food safe. “Food grade” or “food safe” means that the insulation jacket designers consider the particular needs of the food processing plant. A question that we are commonly asked is, “How long will these insulation jackets last?” That is a good question with several answers! Materials play a huge part in the life cycle of an insulation jacket. Choosing the correct hot and cold side cover is key in getting the optimal lifespan of an insulation jacket. The first thing we need to look at is the location: is it in a chemical plant, power plant, high acidity area, or an isolated area in the middle of nowhere? Read more!

Removable Insulation Blankets with Heating Elements

Apr 13 2018
Insulation Blanket with Heating Cable Element

There are instances in which it is appropriate to fit a removable insulation jacket with a heating element such as heat trace or silicone heat pads. The circumstances can vary from the common application to the extremely special application. Regardless, the goal is the same: Keep a fluid or component warm. The most common uses of Heat Trace cable in a removable insulation jacket has to do with freeze protection of piping and valves. However, the fluid within the piping could have a requirement of being at a temperature well above ambient temperature, 140°F or higher. Read more…

A Boiler Drum Insulated by Thermaxx Jackets

Silverstein Properties wanted to insulate the front, rear, and rear circle drum of a boiler in its recently acquired property, 3 Mitchell Place in New York City. The 26 story building previously housed the Beekman Tower Hotel. The boiler was running inefficiently and posed a safety hazard because of the high temperature (267°F) of the three components. The boiler must undergo a yearly inspection by an engineer, so ensuring his or her easy access to the boiler was a high priority as well.

A Sterile Clean Room

Insulating in an airtight or clean room application can be extremely difficult. Good clean room design has the mechanical insulation out of the airtight or clean room environment to avoid the possibility of fibers being introduced into the air. At the sasme time, there can be equipment in the clean room that must be used in a production situation and has an elevated temperature that can cause an employee to get severely burned. Read more.

Insulation Blankets for RV Accessories: Improve Safety & Lifespan

Mar 16 2018

ThermaXX Jackets was asked for expert insulation advice concerning a barbecue that was placed too close, in the customer’s opinion, to the exterior side of the RV for safe operation of the BBQ. BBQ’s can reach temperatures of 400°F and above, which, when placed too close to a fiberglass surface could cause serious problems. The biggest worry was not fire, although that was a consideration. The main worry was discoloration of the exterior portion of the RV directly behind the BBQ. Additionally the BBQ itself did not come with any kind of a weather cover. Our customer was concerned that if the BBQ was left outside that over time the BBQ components would seriously deteriorate!

Removable Insulation Covers For Expansion Joints

Mar 14 2018
expansion-joint-after-insulation

When pipe heats up it expands thus there comes a need for an expansion joint. Without one, your pipes stand the chance of cracking causing big problems and costing you big bucks. Many materials expand with the increase of heat, especially piping. To help deal with this issue, an expansion joint acts as a way for the pipe to absorb the linear movement caused by the pipe expansion…More
