Insulation Jackets Case Study: Garfield Building In San Francisco, CA

Oct 02 2019

The Garfield Building in San Francisco, located in the heart of the theater district, is a beautiful 28 unit building built by the Reid Brothers in 1908, and the infrastructure was totally gutted and remodeled in 2008. Dave Pritchard, the Garfield’s HOA President, reached out to ThermaXX in the Spring of 2018. Dave was passionately looking at all possible ways to become more energy efficient, and wanted to look at the potential cost effectiveness of techniques he had seen used commercially in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry applied in a residential application. Protection From Hot Pipes & Components Using Insulation Blankets

Aug 08 2019

Thermaxx Jackets recently had a customer that was seeking to insulate all of the hot pipes and components in their learning facility after an employee had been burned when coming into contact with a bare hot component’s surface. Removable insulation blankets by Thermaxx Jackets are great for improving your steam system’s energy efficiency, but the safety benefits for your personnel are overlooked far too often. Read more.

Flexible Insulation Blankets

Removable Steam Pipe Insulation

Traditional stay-in-place thermal insulation for piping and other components is rigid, and if it’s partially or fully removed for inspections or maintenance it usually can’t be replaced. Insulation that isn’t flexible, or rigid insulation, doesn’t work for every application. There are some cases where insulation blankets, like Thermaxx Jackets, are a better solution because they can be made with alternative insulation materials that are flexible. This allows for components of irregular shape to be insulated effectively. Read more.

Regulating Boiler Room Temperature

Jun 25 2019
Typical Boiler Room Piping

A hot boiler room creates many problems. Typically, the ceiling of a boiler room is the bottom of the floor directly above and because heat rises the ceiling area is hot, extremely hot. Many times, we see temperatures exceeding 115°F! The floor above the boiler room radiates heat into the occupied space causing an unanticipated load on the cooling system. The space is so uncomfortable that windows are opened in the winter time wasting more heat. Read more.

Centrifugal Pump Insulation Blankets

Jun 22 2019
Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal pumps are probably the most common type of pump in use today. Centrifugal pumps are used in residential applications for hydronic heating systems, potable water supply from a well and other applications. Industrial and commercial use is by far the greatest use of this type of pump. They are used for hot water supply/return systems, chilled water systems, light oils and a host of other applications.

The Difference Between Hot And Cold Insulation Materials

Jun 03 2019

It’s difficult to make the decision between purchasing hot or cold removable insulation materials without truly knowing both sides of the story. Both forms of insulation materials are going to save you money in the end, but it is vital to determine which is the most practical and cost effective for your piping system.

There are questions that need to be asked when choosing insulation. At the top of this decision tree is the most important: is the equipment or piping that we are insulating hot or cold? Once this question is answered the next question is: interior or exterior? The answer to these two questions will jump start the decision process when choosing an insulation…More

Insulation Bid Package Guide

Apr 10 2019

Recently, I was surprised to see so many general insulation contractors throwing their hat into the ring while on a mandatory facility walk-through for an insulation jacket project that was being put out to bid by an engineering firm. When the walk-through was completed we were given a valve list and a couple of notes about the bid process, but key pieces of information were left out. Read more.

Why You Should Inspect Stainless Steel Pipes

Mar 14 2019
stress-corrosion-cracking

Common in factories and plants, stainless steel pipes and tubes are something we frequently see in our removable insulation installation calls. In these industrial settings, stainless steel pipes are frequently exposed to extreme temperatures and conditions; thus, insulating them is important to energy savings. Perhaps equally important is inspecting stainless steel pipes…More
