Outdoor mechanical systems create many challenges for the facility managers and engineers tasked with maintaining them. While most HVAC systems are found within a facility, in boiler rooms, mechanical rooms and penthouses, often times that piping is run outdoors on rooftops as well.

The engine room (or ER) of a large marine vessel such as a tug boat, fire boat, or mega ship houses the vessel’s prime mover, usually some variations of a heat engine – diesel engine, gas or steam turbine, or some combination of these. On a large percentage of vessels ships and boats, the engine room is located near the bottom, and at the rear or aft end of the vessel, and usually comprises few compartments. As shown in this video tour of a mega ship’s engine room, there are numerous components within the engine room including boilers, generators, fuel pumps, exhaust manifolds and more. Spray drying is the process of converting a mixture in its liquid form to a powder. This is done by removing the moisture component from the liquid solution. The solution, sometimes called an emulsion, is sprayed through a nozzle into a chamber that simultaneously has hot air being blown into it. This is the preferred method of drying of many thermally-sensitive materials such as foods and pharmaceuticals.
