Weatherproof Actuator Covers: A WeatherMaxx Case Study

Jun 09 2021

A large school district in the San Antonio, Texas area had a major problem with their actuator “weather protection” covers. The covers were severely affected by UV rays and quickly deteriorated to a point that rain was able to get inside the actuator and cause major shutdown problems. The school district relies on Amcon Controls of San Antonio for their valves and actuators. Upon hearing of the problem, Amcon Controls President Bob Barnebey contacted Thermaxx to help find a solution… More

The Advantages of Removable Insulation Jackets in Cryogenic Applications

Jun 03 2021
Cryogenic Valve Insulation

As LNG becomes a more frequently used energy resource, the need for properly maintained cryogenic systems is becoming an essential part of the LNG manufacturing and distribution process. Cryogenic mechanical systems consume large quantities of energy to cool LNG to extremely low temperatures. With LNG demand at an all-time high, conserving energy by properly insulating the system becomes crucial.

Unfortunately, all cryogenic valves require servicing and are traditionally left uninsulated, losing both energy and LNG as a result. In the past, these losses were accepted as part of the process, but with focus shifting to sustainability, these types of oversights are causing facility managers to search for a solution. An LNG plant operator recently found himself in this exact situation. It occurred to him that removable, cryogenic, insulation jackets could offer exactly what he needed.

Interchurch Center Insulation Check Up: Eight Years Of Energy Efficiency

Sep 09 2020

We returned to The Interchurch Center in February of 2020 to perform an annual insulation inspection. We interviewed Johnny D, Chief Engineer, re-tagged all existing jackets with new SLATE tags from The Slate Pages and performed a facility wide insulation inspection which resulted in a new phase of work. The Interchurch Center in NYC is comprised of over 60 non profit organizations. The building has saved over 400,000 gas therms since our first insulation project in 2012. We look forward to our continued efforts to assist The Interchurch Center with their energy and safety related goals.

Choosing The Right Insulation For Your Application: A New York Project Case Study

Jul 02 2020

Recently we were asked to perform a survey for a large property management firm in New York City. This had not been the first time we provided this company with insulation surveys and we hoped that we would be awarded the project. Even though we were able to show the client the benefits of using traditional fiberglass on straight runs of pipe and custom jackets on serviceable components, we did not “win” the job. So I asked my contact to address the objection to our quote and recommended solution. I was told that this is an issue with the onsite engineers. “They don’t believe jackets are worth it!”
